Today I had some spare cycles to dig into the cause of the problem and find the fix. Running 8.5.0 WMWare Fusion, and Mac OS X Sierra vs. I hadnt disabled the feature in Fusion and nothing lept to mind about other changes I could have made that caused the problem. Fusion must be configured to enable it and VMware Tools must be running inside the guest for it to work.

I decided to go for the 30-day trial to see if everything would work and installed the latest VMware Fusion 8.5. Unfortunately my 6.x license could not be used for 8.5.
